Clerkship Exercises:
Pediatrics Clerkship Exercise (SP cases listed): All pediatric clerkship students participate in a newly developed SP cultural competence curriculum involving 5 SP encounters. The students are able to watch as well as experience situations incorporating trigger questions with additional learning objectives such as: folk illness remedies, impact of illness on family, domestic violence, and effectively using an interpreter. In a group of four, each student has a SP encounter, while the remaining students observe through closed-circuit television, followed by extensive debriefing.
Applied Biomedical Sciences: “Hold Your Breath” Viewing and Discussion: Clerkship students watch and respond to “Hold Your Breath”, directed by Dr. Maren Grainger-Monsen. Students participated in a large group discussion with the protagonist physician, as well as had a chance to discuss in a small group setting
